Reverse Engineering - Product Design

During the phases of defining the style of a product, manual object models are usually performed. Specialized models generate a physical model based on the drawings or sketches delivered by designers. This model is worked out by specialists and designers to achieve aesthetic and functional criteria pursuing its development

To industrialize the model created, the need to introduce the geometry achieved in a computer system (CAD). Traditionally this process has been done in different ways. Initially it involved manual measurement using calipers and templates with the problems of slowness and lack of precision involved. More recently, CMMs have been used to control the system through computer. Although the system gets some drawbacks: the accuracy achieved is not appropriate for a mass capture of points because of its slow and is not suitable for soft or deformable objects since they require physical contact with the surface to be measured.

o solve such problems, arise contact optical scanners to be the white light system which fits the best thanks to its features of speed, accuracy, resolution and portability.

Measurement with the optical system allows
  • Verify the entire piece without the need to manufacture Special tools as the measure is non-contact.
  • Thickness and strain gauge showing the result with intuitive color maps that facilitate the work of engineers
  • Align the measure with CAD using different techniques :
  • Best-fit, benchmarks (RPS), and so on. Measure objects and separately assembled. Thanks to its portability, it can lead directly to production lines.
